After having his “Red Pill” moment, Straka embarked upon creating a grassroots movement that became known as #WalkAway. He created a powerful video which went viral and attracted thousands of people to the movement. 

“I’m devasted right now. #WalkAway Campaign is a grassroots movement. We don’t have corporate sponsors. We don’t have backers. We are raising the money and the awareness for our event ourselves. We use GoFundMe to raise money. And today Facebook took away my ability to communicate with the 180,000 members of the campaign leading up to the March. This is going to smash my ability to provide information, answer questions, raise money, and rally with my people. I am crushed,” said Straka in an interview with The Gateway Pundit.

“Today I was banned by Facebook from communicating with my audience leading up to the March on Washington. This is devastating as they are depending on me 4 info. I was banned 4 mentioning the name of a conservative also recently banned from all platforms,” Straka tweeted.

For lower-profile conservatives, this is nothing new. This type of castigation has been occurring for more than two years. In one case a woman lost control of a private group that she created and had built to more than a half-million members. Facebook banned her repeatedly solely based on the complaints generated by trolls who claimed that her content was "offensive".  The content essentially consisted of conservative reporting. Eventually Facebook deleted her account and barred her from reentering her own group under a new account. This group has now been taken over by trolls and used for reasons contrary to the original intent of the group. 

On August 12 the social media site Hubbook.com attempted to contact Straka through his both his Twitter and his new Facebook accounts to make him an offer to use the platform to promote his march. The same social media company sent Alex Jones a letter in August offering him an “open platform” after he himself was banned from several platforms. 

Hubbook also has launched its own #WalkAway campaign called "#WalkAwayToHubbook" that has picked up traction in recent weeks with new members who are leaving Facebook for a platform that will not ban them for their political beliefs. Aside from common members, the platform has picked up memberships from at least ten radio personalities such as Ron Edwards of the Ron Edwards Experience and Josh Bernstein of the Josh Bernstein Show.
