Worries About Big Ticket Item Inflation Hit Worse Level Since 1982

Friday, 11 June 2021 18:28 Written by

The last time Americans were this unhappy about prices of big-ticket purchases was 1982, when the Federal Reserve was fighting a war against double-digit inflation.

The University of Michigan’s survey of consumer sentiment showed U.S. consumers more concerned with higher prices of appliances, houses, and cars than anytime in 39 years, according to the survey’s chief economist Richard Curtin.

The survey records spontaneous mentions of prices of these major purchases and subtracts comments about higher prices from comments about lower prices. The difference has plummeted this year, indicating a huge imbalance in the comments due to a much larger volume of comments on higher prices.

The Gallup survey found Americans are ideologically driven when it comes to issues they find morally acceptable or unacceptable.

“Perspectives on morality are strongly related to (and perhaps influenced by) their own political ideology,” the survey found, examining a range of issues:

North Carolina Senate Sends Bill Banning Abortions Based On Down Syndrome, Sex, Race, To Governor’s Desk

Friday, 11 June 2021 18:17 Written by

North Carolina lawmakers have sent a bill banning abortions based on a diagnosis of Down Syndrome to the governor’s desk for signing.

House Bill 453, or the Human Life Nondiscrimination Act/No Eugenics Act, not only bans abortions based on Down Syndrome but also prohibits the procedure based on the unborn baby’s sex or race. If a mother attempted to get an abortion because the mother wanted a son, not a daughter, for example, a doctor must deny her an abortion under the new law. (RELATED: ‘Modern Day Eugenics’: Florida House Passes Bill Banning Abortions Based On Disability)

Republican California Rep. Michelle Steel called on Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to share additional COVID-19 vaccines with Taiwan Wednesday amid China’s attempts to block access.

The Daily Caller first obtained a letter sent to Blinken, which asks the State Department to deliver more COVID-19 vaccines to support the U.S. ally.

Only 3% of Taiwan’s population of 23.5 million were vaccinated and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) was trying to block Taiwan from accessing vaccines, according to the letter. Taiwan has accused China of blocking its efforts to reach a deal with BioNTech to import the vaccine, NPR reported.

The report didn’t specify how much was given to Biden last year, but the couple reportedly gave $12.2 million to federal political action committees (PAC) that support Democratic candidates, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Rashida Tlaib Says She Doesn’t Have Freedom of Speech In Tweet To Her 1.4 Million Followers

Friday, 11 June 2021 17:58 Written by

Democratic Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib claimed that Muslim women in Congress don’t have freedom of speech in a Thursday tweet to her 1.4 million followers on Twitter.

Tlaib’s comments came in response to House Democrats condemning Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar for creating a false equivalency between the U.S., Israel and groups like Hamas and the Taliban, who are engaged in terror activities. Omar herself clarified that she did not intend her original statement to equivocate, but Tlaib came to her defense and attacked House Democrats for criticizing Omar.

“Freedom of speech doesn’t exist for Muslim women in Congress,” she argued.

“The benefit of the doubt doesn’t exist for Muslim women in Congress. House Democratic leadership should be ashamed of its relentless, exclusive tone policing of Congresswomen of color.” (RELATED: Ilhan Omar Says Israel Defending Itself From Hamas Is Terrorism)

Omar equated the U.S. and Israel with terrorists in a Monday tweet.

A group of 12 Democrats, led by Illinois Rep. Brad Schneider, released a joint statement condemning Omar on Wednesday evening.

“Equating the United States and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban is as offensive as it is misguided,” the statement said. “Ignoring the differences between democracies governed by the rule of law and contemptible organizations that engage in terrorism at best discredits one’s intended argument and at worst reflects deep-seated prejudice.”

“The United States and Israel are imperfect and, like all democracies, at times deserving of critique, but false equivalencies give cover to terrorist groups. We urge Congresswoman Omar to clarify her words placing the US and Israel in the same category as Hamas and the Taliban.”

Georgia’s Second Largest School District Bans Critical Race Theory Lessons

Friday, 11 June 2021 17:15 Written by

The Cobb County, Georgia, school board banned Critical Race Theory (CRT) lessons Thursday from classrooms.

The district, which has about 110,000 students and is the state’s second largest, blocked lessons on “systemic” racism after board Chairman Randy Scamihorn “said he brought up the topic because educators allegedly said on social media they were using part of the theory in their classroom discussions,” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

“It’s revisionist history and history should be thorough,” Scamihorn said, adding CRT “is a Marxist concept that pits one group of people against another.”
