Presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) has been a prominent supporter of marijuana legalization despite warning in 2003 that nationwide legalization could lead to "drug addiction, health problems, [and] traffic accidents."
In the Senate, Warren has authored one bill and backed another that would partially or fully decriminalize marijuana at the federal level. She claimed in 2018 that "federal marijuana laws have perpetuated our broken criminal justice system, created barriers to research, and hindered economic development."
